his & hers
Is manhood all about sports and hunting? Is womanhood really all about decorating and shopping? These stereotypes seem a bit shallow and press us toward a bigger question: What makes us who we are? What is the essence of being a woman? Deep inside, what does it mean to be a man? Over the next six weeks, we will search through the Bible to find these answers and many more. We will talk about motherhood and fatherhood. We will also explore the differences in our roles as husband and wife. This should be an intriguing, fun, and highly-informative series that will open our eyes to God's design for each of us.

H2O
Do you thirst for something more out of life? When you lay your head on your pillow each night do you feel fulfilled in life? CS Lewis once said, "Creatures are not born with a desire unless satisfaction for that desire exists. If you find yourself with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, then maybe you were not made for this world." Are you confident that you were created to feel the way you feel about life? Jesus taught that he was a 'type of living water' that if you drink from his fountain you would never thirst again. Over the next ten weeks in our small groups and in our worship gatherings we will discuss this longing, emptiness, or thirst that we all have felt. We will search out how to have this emptiness filled.

BOLD
When history is made ... when a lasting impact is felt ... when you experience something you know you won't soon forget ... it's because someone was BOLD enough to take a risk. Whether in art, music, relationships, sports, or any other avenue. Unfortunately, the bold ones in religion are usually out-of-touch religious fanatics whose boldness no one wants to experience. The apostle Paul describes a boldness in the church of Philippi that is unique, compelling, and attractive. Webster describes boldness as a daring spirit who fears no danger. Is that you? Do you trust God so much with your life that you would be described as one who fears nothing?

Crazy Love
Love is a word used very broadly in the English language. I say, "I love my wife," and I say, "I love a new york strip," using the same verb. Doesn't that seem odd? How can I express my immense love for someone like my wife using the same word I use to describe my feelings for a quality piece of meat? I am left with weak adverbs like very, deeply, or tenderly.

Over the next few weeks were are going to the Scriptures to learn how we are to respond to and love God. The Bible speaks of a relentless, extravagant, consuming love that God has for his people and, in-turn we are to have for him. This love relationship is unprecedented. One might even call it Crazy Love.

Guild
In the early fourth century a term was used to describe craftsmen who would band together to share ideas about how to implement their craft at the highest level. GUILD. A guild of carpenters would associate together, share ideas about woodwork with the goal of become great at their craft. Over the next few months, we will walk through what it means to be a partner at the Journey Church. Like a guild, we will band together to become the greatest church we can by organizing ourselves around a common goal - to develop disciple-makers of Jesus and to send them to labor in a lost world.

Comebacks

There is something inside all of us that wants to see the impossible happen. We find ourselves sitting on the edge of our seats to watch the underdog face the mighty, often pulling for a team from somewhere we have never heard of or rooting for the guy who emerges from seemingly nowhere. Somehow we all connect with the likely 'not' to succeed, the little guy facing the giant, the Cinderella. But something even more magical happens when all seems hopeless and all seems lost, defeat appears emanate and then... The tide turns, the momentum shifts, and you begin to believe something great is about to happen. The Comeback! It is in our hearts to yearn for comebacks. Seeing someone pull themselves from tyranny, dispare, certain defeat and rise to great heights is exciting to watch and exhilarating to experience. The Bible is full of such experiences. Sarah's comeback from old-age, Jacob's comeback from a dysfunctional family, and Paul's comeback from religious radicalism are just a few of the stories that we will explore. Together we will see that the rocky moments that seem too great to overcome are just what God uses to make much out of His people.

like Jesus
Contemporary commentators say that the current generation lacks viable role models to emulate. Many of the so-called "leaders," could best be described as self-absorbed, insincere, power-hungry, and disheartened. Who are we to follow? Who are we to mimic? Might I suggest the commentators are wrong and there is one to be like - Jesus.

Caution Church Ahead!!!
Caution Church Ahead! What did Jesus intend his church to be like? Is today's church the perfect representation of Jesus' heart? In Revelation, Jesus gives us an eye-opening look into what his church was intended (and not intented) to be like. Over the course of the next eight weeks, we will be looking at the guideposts that Jesus uses to warn these seven churches. Hopefully, here at the beginning of our church, we can learn from these guideposts that Jesus lays out for the church.
